FAQs for Young Adults
Navigating the beginnings of adulthood can feel overwhelming, whether you're facing internal struggles or external pressures. The Helix Center's tailored outpatient therapy program is here to help you find your way forward. Here’s how.
Our short-term Young Adult Outpatient Program provides compassionate care, evidence-based therapies, and individualized support for young adults who want to engage more fully with their lives. The FAQs below answer many of the most common questions we receive from 18-25 year-olds interested in our customized program.
A Quick Guide for Young Adults:

The Helix Center outpatient program is right for you if you are between 18 and 25 and struggling to launch into adulthood in a healthy, successful, stable way.
Whether it’s your home life, college, or the job market, sometimes life can pull you down and it can feel like you’re stuck, no matter how hard you try to pull yourself up. Suffering looks different for everybody — it can show up as feelings of isolation, destructive behaviors, avoidance, panicky feelings in your body, self harm, thoughts that you can’t stop, or trouble in your relationships with friends, family, or partners. Suffering can feel quiet or it can feel loud. It can make you feel invisible or like everyone is looking at you.
Whatever your suffering is like, if you want to find relief from it and are willing to do the work, then the Helix Center will be right for you.

You shouldn’t expect to leave Helix remade into a problem-free human who won’t ever feel pain or stress again — we’re not about erasing your struggles or emotions. Rather, your time here will give you a supportive place to get away from those struggles long enough to strengthen your coping skills so you can get a handle on them.
We’re here to help you master techniques for understanding your emotions and relating in positive ways so you can keep moving forward and taking care of yourself when you encounter setbacks. After completing our program, our hope is to leave you with a better understanding of how you relate to yourself, to others, and to the world — and, most importantly, with tools that will give you the power to better manage your feelings and reactions, so they don't hold you back as you grow into a successful adult.

You are welcome to continue working with your current psychiatrist while enrolled in the Helix program for your medication management needs. Alternatively, you have the option to transition to Dr. Sakran, who will oversee your medication management during the 14-week Helix program. Opting for medication management within the same practice where therapy is received can be advantageous. This arrangement promotes a seamless collaboration between your mental health providers, fostering a cohesive approach to your care and treatment plan.

At Helix Center we strive to provide the highest level of care possible. Starting sessions on time and participating consistently is essential to this process — both for you and your group. When you miss an individual or group session, it means you’re missing out on treatment that is critical to your growth. While attendance is required, we understand there are sometimes unforeseen circumstances in which you may have to miss a session. In rare cases like this, we will try to work with you, but we will always emphasize on-time attendance for all sessions.
You will be charged for missed sessions.

Group sessions are a main component of The Helix Center’s approach and, yes, they are mandatory. That said, we aren’t here to force you to do anything you aren’t ready for or comfortable with.
The idea of group therapy isn’t enticing to everybody right off the bat, but we encourage you to give it a shot. There are piles of data-driven evidence that prove group sessions help people make progress.
And while you do have to go to group, you won’t have to add your voice until you are ready. While many people enjoy group as a space to share and be heard, ask questions, or receive feedback, others benefit more from using group as an opportunity to just listen and observe in the company of others.

At this time, The Helix Center is not part of any insurance panel. That being said, we will provide all the paperwork you need to submit for out-of-network reimbursement.
